Traditional Ink Fingerprinting

While many agencies have moved to digital, some still require a physical hard copy. We specialize in high-quality ink impressions to ensure your application isn’t delayed.

We recommend that our clients read their instructions carefully, as some agencies send paperwork for ID verification and notarization. Some also require a passport photo. Please bring all documents at the time of your appointment.

When to choose Ink Over Live Scan

You may need traditional ink cards if:

  • Your requesting agency is outside of California.
  • The fingerprints must be physically mailed to a federal or international office.
  • You are applying for specific professional licenses that do not yet accept electronic submissions.

Ink Fingerprints FAQ

Ink fingerprints are fingerprints captured on a physical fingerprint card, usually by rolling each finger in ink and placing the impressions onto the card. They are often used when an agency, employer, licensing board, or government office requires a hard-copy fingerprint card instead of an electronic Live Scan submission.

Please bring a valid, government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, state ID, passport, or other acceptable identification. You should also bring any paperwork, instructions, fingerprint cards, ORI numbers, agency codes, mailing instructions, or forms provided by the agency requesting your fingerprints.

It depends on the agency’s requirements. If the agency gave you a specific fingerprint card, bring that card with you. If you were not given a card, we have the standard card, FD-258, that you need.

We can help guide you with the fingerprinting portion and make sure the fingerprints are placed properly on the card. However, you are responsible for providing accurate personal information and following the instructions from the requesting agency.

Most ink fingerprint appointments are completed efficiently. The exact time may depend on the number of cards needed, the condition of your fingerprints, and whether multiple sets are required.

Some fingerprints can be harder to capture due to dry skin, worn ridges, cuts, age, certain occupations, or skin conditions. At L A Fingerprints, Inc., we take the time to carefully capture the clearest prints possible and provide a professional, respectful experience.

Avoid applying heavy lotion right before your appointment. If your hands are very dry, light moisturizing earlier in the day may help. Keep your hands clean, and try to avoid activities that may cause cuts, irritation, or excessive dryness before fingerprinting.

Yes. Any fingerprint submission can be rejected if the prints are unclear, incomplete, smudged, too light, or if the card has missing or incorrect information. We take care to capture high-quality prints, but final acceptance is determined by the receiving agency.
